Battle Of The Books
One of our field trips each year is to "Battle of the Books". It is a great competition where the students voluntarily read 12 award winning novels by May of next year. They do not have to do this, but it is great fun for those who do participate. We then have a competition or "battle" with the other Plato campuses. In the past, the schools have combined together to form teams so there is a winner from each campus. A list of questions will be asked to each team and they will have to respond with the title and author for full credit. Teams that have the most points will advance each round until there is a winner.
Unfortunately, I do not have enough copies of my books here at school, so, please go to your local library to check them out or purchase them through Scholastic (I love donations when they are done so one day I can have enough books for all 18 of my students to begin reading one each.). We do have a checkout system in place for the copies of the books we do have on hand.
The competition is fun and serious. We've built it up as the coolest thing since 2nd grade! I hope you will support them and encourage them to read. They can be used for their weekly reading logs too!
